Liner notes:

We are often asked which is our favorite recording. With the myriad number of recordings we have made over the years, it is a difficult – if not impossible – question to answer! We have many favorites and this recording ranks very high on our preferred list. Perhaps because, to so many of us, Christmas Is So Special.

Choosing the songs to be included was a most enjoyable experience in itself. We realized that Christmas would not be Christmas without the music which has become part of the tradition over the centuries. On the other hand, we also wanted to include those songs which, over the past several decades, have joined the ranks of the music that is now an integral part of the Christmas season.

Our treatments vary from the light and frothy (by which we approach Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer, Jingle Bells and Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town) to reverence (in our treatment of age-old carols such as Hard! The Herald Angels Sing, O Come All Ye Faithful, Silent Night et al.) . As a counterbalance we treat The Christmas Song, Winter Wonderland and Irving Berlin’s perennial favorite, White Christmas, as ballads, attempting to grasp the style and mood in which they were written.

The great variety of music afforded us was both challenging and stimulating. We hope that your pleasure in listening to Christmas Is So Special will equal our pleasure in arranging and recording it!

Our warmest wishes for A Very Merry Christmas!

Ferrante & Teicher

Doug's comments:

For this reissue, nearly all of the tracks from Snowbound and We Wish You A Merry Christmas, previously reissued as a 2-on-1 CD, were remastered. "Ave Maria" (from Part Two, The Ferrante & Teicher Concert ) replaces "Moonlight In Vermont" in this collection.

These remasterings (minus "Ave Maria") were used on the 2012 2-on-1 reissue of the holiday albums.

I'm putting this in the CD category of "compilations." Although it does include all tracks from We Wish You A Merry Christmas, it is not an intact 2-on-1 CD.
